Shere Delight

A quick review of the Shere B&B. I must say I don’t often stay in bed and breakfasts, the last time was approximately five years ago. However, I stayed in the Shere B&B this weekend and I was surprised at the high standard and so felt it necessary that I should write about it.

Located just south of London in the Surrey Hills, the location is perfect for walkers and cyclists hoping to escape the city or (in my case) near to a friends party!

It’s also only around 20 minutes drive to Gatwick airport and in scenic the village of Shere, which is where the film ‘The Holiday’ was filmed.

Reservation was very simple, a quick phone call followed by confirmation email and a deposit and we were booked in for the night.

A few days prior to arriving they emailed to say that there had been a slight mix up with the rooms but that we could be given one different room and a discount to apologise for any inconvenience, which we were fine with.

On arrival Martin Druce greeted us warmly and gave us the tour of our rooms. The rooms are large, bright and airy. Decorated in light neutral tones of creams and greys for a modern country vibe.

Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room as well as a TV and DVD of the holiday. I thought this was a cute touch.

A few moments later we were ready to leave for the surprise party that we had travelled here for and after a quick chat with the owners wife and son, they booked a Taxi for us to collect us and take us to the party.

We crept back in around 1:30am being sure not to wake anyone. I had a great night sleep, as did my friends in a neighbouring room. Due to it being on the edge of a very small village, there is no traffic noise and it is very peaceful.

I woke up around 8:30 and opening the window shutters to look at the wonderful view over the garden and beyond. I opened the window for some fresh air and could hear the birds singing. Just perfect!

We had asked for breakfast to be ready for 9am the next morning. And after waking and a quick shower I went down to the open plan grey painted kitchen for a lovely breakfast spread of orange juice, tea or coffee, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, pastries, freshly baked bread and preserves.

Presentation is excellent and it is obvious that a lot of pride is taken in this family run b&b.

Everything is done to make sure your are comfortable, the hosts are very attentive ensuring you have everything you need and answering any questions you have about the house.
